How does the Antarctica21 travel model enhance the overall experience for travelers compared to traditional cruises?
Our Antarctic air-cruises redefined Antarctic expeditions over 20 years ago. With us, travelers can fly over the Drake Passage and reach the Antarctic Peninsula in two hours. There, they can dive straight into their adventure aboard one of our boutique polar vessels. On our small ships, everyone enjoys landings together, fostering a more intimate and personalized exploration of the stunning landscapes. There’s no waiting or missing out—just a fully immersive experience where every guest can take in the magic of Antarctica.

How does being a local company make a big difference in delivering a trip of a lifetime?
Being a local company allows us to genuinely welcome guests into our home, sharing not only Antarctica’s breathtaking landscapes but also the warmth and culture of the local community in the Magallanes region in Chile. One standout feature is the Explorers House, our Antarctic-themed private club designed to enhance Antarctica21’s guest experience. This unique space offers a comfortable and inviting atmosphere where travelers can gather, relax, and learn more about their upcoming expedition. It creates a sense of camaraderie and fosters lasting memories that extend well beyond the excursions.

How do Antarctica21’s location and regional expertise contribute to a more authentic and seamless experience for travelers?
The backbone of our Antarctic operations is rooted in Punta Arenas, the Chilean gateway to Antarctica. As a local company in this remote region, we have built a solid infrastructure and an extensive network of key relationships to support our guests’ expeditions and deliver the best service. For over two decades, we have operated more Antarctic air-cruises than any other travel company, setting a gold standard in polar exploration. Our deep knowledge of the area allows us to craft expeditions that showcase the best of Antarctica.

As someone deeply involved in product delivery, what are some logistical challenges you face in operating Antarctic expeditions, and how does Antarctica21 overcome them?
Operating Antarctic expeditions comes with unique logistical challenges, particularly due to the region’s isolation and extreme conditions. One of the biggest challenges is ensuring flexibility in our itineraries to adapt to unpredictable weather and sea conditions. Antarctica can be volatile, and the ability to adjust plans quickly is essential. Thanks to our smaller ships and intimate groups, we can swiftly pivot and explore alternative landing sites or activities, ensuring our guests still enjoy a memorable experience, no matter the changes.

Additionally, expert guidance is critical in such a demanding environment. Our seasoned team, including naturalists and expedition leaders, is well-equipped to manage every aspect of the journey. They provide the insight, safety, and expertise needed for guests to fully immerse themselves in this extraordinary destination. By combining flexibility, regional expertise, and meticulous planning, Antarctica21 overcomes logistical hurdles and creates seamless, unforgettable experiences.

What new offerings or experiences can travelers expect from Antarctica21 in the 2024-2025 season, both in terms of services and expedition activities?
For the 2024-2025 season, we have implemented several upgrades to our facilities and services for our guests.

  • A Zodiac has been installed at Explorers House. Our team will use it to deliver pre-trip practice and safety sessions to our guests.
For expeditions starting in Punta Arenas, the check-in, briefing session and welcome diner are delivered at Explorers House.
  • Standard internet service will be provided complimentary on-board Magellan Explorer and Ocean Nova. Guests booked in Penthouse Suites on Magellan Explorer will enjoy complimentary premium internet service.
  • All guest amenities have been upgraded, including a new double-insulated water bottle.
  • This season also marks the launch of our Sea Voyages between Ushuaia, Argentina, and Puerto Montt, Chile, which add an exciting new dimension to our itineraries. We’re especially excited to operate a new itinerary featuring Patagonia and the Chilean Fjords, allowing guests to explore some of the most remote and awe-inspiring landscapes in South America.

What experiences are you most excited about?
For the 2024-2025 season, I’m most excited about our brand new itinerary, “Patagonia and the Chilean Fjords,” between Ushuaia, Argentina and Puerto Montt, Chile. This region is home to some of the most breathtaking landscapes in South America: cold evergreen forests meet with snow-powdered hills and millennial glaciers. Patagonia is also home to wildlife species such as the Magellan penguins, cormorants, and other amazing sea birds. Marine mammals can also be seen in this region, whales and seals are among the most common ones. I can’t wait for our guests to experience the raw beauty and fascinating history of Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego. It promises to be an unforgettable journey!
