Magellan Explorer

Designed for Sustainable Boutique Adventures in Antarctica

Launched in 2019 and purpose-built for Antarctica21's boutique fly-and-cruise expeditions, Magellan Explorer is an intimate expedition vessel that sets the standard for sustainable Antarctic travel.

Magellan Explorer

Tier III Compliance

This is one of the highest environmental standards for residual emissions, and compliance is achieved through Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems, which significantly reduce engine emissions.

Anti-Fouling Coating

Advanced anti-fouling coating prevents marine organisms from attaching to the hull. This helps reduce drag and minimizes environmental impact by avoiding harmful biocides found in older coatings.

Onboard Science Lab

The system recycles residual heat from the engines to produce freshwater and heating on board the ship.

Reverse Osmosis Water System

This system converts seawater into freshwater through advanced filtration, ensuring a constant supply for onboard use and reducing reliance on shore-based water resources.

Navigation Stabilizers

Advanced navigation stabilizers significantly reduce vessel motion, providing a smoother and more comfortable experience for guests on board.

Ballast Water Management System

The system uses treated seawater to maintain vessel stability and trim, ensuring safe and efficient operations while adhering to environmental regulations to avoid ecological disruption.

Water Refill Stations

Water refill stations offer guests a convenient way to stay hydrated without the environmental cost of disposable plastic bottles.

Waste Reduction Technologies

Onboard systems such as food waste digesters, compactors, and shredders minimize the volume of organic and inorganic waste, helping ensure compliance with strict environmental standards.

Waste Management

On board the ship, waste management meets MARPOL and IMO requirements: waste is segregated, tracked, and safely stored onboard, compacted and secured until delivery to authorized port facilities to minimize environmental impact.

Atmos Air

The AtmosAir system uses bipolar ionization with duct-mounted sensors to continuously reduce contaminants and allergens. Remote monitoring via Kaiterra air-quality sensors helps maintain healthier air for passengers and crew.

Ascenz Marorka

This onboard digital solution monitors and optimizes fuel consumption and operational energy efficiency, contributing to the reduction of emissions.
